This fire pit grill is made of 3mm corten steel which is commonly called "weathering steel" .it will develop a beautifully brown layer of rust when exposed to the weather.The weathering rust actually performs as a protective coating providing greater resistance to corrosion compared to other steels. It will be almost fully rusted when it arrives but will take another 2-4 months to completely cure.

How to maintain COR-TEN steel products?

The surface of the products have been treated.  There are a few stains at the beginning. Don't worry about this. It will become very few after several months.

• Cor-ten steel products require very little maintenance. The protective coating of rust over the metal means there's no need for painting or costly rust-prevention work. That protective coating also slows the rate of future corrosion.They can hold outside 365 days a year. No storaging needed.

• To prolong the life of corten steel products,  we recommend cleaning the steel with a sturdy brush as often as you can.

• Make sure your product is situated in a place where it can quickly dry after rain.

 

COR-TEN has served as weathering steel(atmospheric corrosion-resistant steel). It has successfully overcome rust, steel's most weakest, by capitalizing on its unique "rust cures rust" function. When exposed to the atmosphere without painting, COR-TEN begins to rust in the same way as ordinary steel. But soon the alloying elements in COR-TEN cause a protective surface layer of fine-textured rust to form, thereby suppressing corrosion rate.
